Valentine’s Marathon Massacre Details

February 16, 2010
by mebanerunning

Congratulations to the MRC on a great showing at the St. Valentine’s Day Marathon Massacre Relay on February 14th, 2010. Fifty members and ‘friends of the MRC’ made up twelve four-person teams and one 2-person team. And we had a great crowd of family and friends out to support the group!

From Herbie and the Lovebugs’ to ‘Here for the Fabulous Hoodies’ we had costumes, cake and enthusiasm! A special thanks to Leon and Tammy for bringing the space heater and to Amanda for her amazing cake-baking skills.

Who is ready for next year?

Charitable updates

The MRC will be collecting gently used running and athletic shoes this Saturday, January 23rd, to ship to Soles4Souls for the relief efforts in Hait. Check out what they need here.  The GE plant in Mebane has graciously offered to donate the cost of shipping the shoes to the Soles4Souls warehouse in Tennessee.

According to Soles4Souls – they are in the most need for athletic and kids’ shoes! Please tie the laces together for us!

Please bring your shoes to our regular Saturday morning run at 7:30am at Mebane Espress 109 N. Fourth Street.

If you can’t make it to the run, send us an email at mebanerunning@gmail.com and we can arrange for local pickup on Friday or Saturday.

Soles4Souls: Project Haiti Relief

Soles4Souls is mounting a massive response of emergency relief to the victims of Tuesday’s 7.0-magnitude earthquake near Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince. 3 million people are directly affected by the damage. Untold thousands are likely dead, and tens of thousands are injured. Probably hundreds of thousands have lost their homes and most of their possessions.

Staggering Facts

- An estimated 200,000 dead
- Estimated 250,000 injured
- 1.5 million left homeless

Why shoes are critical

People are in immediate need of the most basic necessities, like food, water, AND SHOES. Soles4Souls is working with trusted partners to provide one million pairs of new boots and shoes to help survivors locate others trapped in the rubble and begin the rebuilding process. As you can imagine, the amount of broken glass, twisted metal and raw sewage is staggering. We will rush this protective footwear to them as quickly as possible.

In fact, we are partnering with others to send a shipment of 30 container loads of emergency supplies, including:
New boots and shoes
Tents
Blankets
Duffle Bags
Food & Water
